Adult Day Program Assistant - 1st shift M-F

Department: The Harbor Adult Day
Location: Burlington, NC

JOB TITLE: Adult Day Program Assistant

REPORTS TO: Adult Day Program Director/Administrator of Memory Care

HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

The program assistant provides essential personal and recreational services to the participants of the Adult Day Program to help meet their needs while enabling them to function at their highest possible level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and compassionate support to adults with dementia and cognitive impairments in an adult day program.
  • Assist participants with personal care needs including toileting, dining, mobility, and safety.
  • Ensure participant safety through proper transfers, fall prevention, and monitoring for elopement risks.
  • Observe and report changes in participants’ physical, emotional, or cognitive status.
  • Use person-centered dementia care approaches to provide behavioral support and redirection.
  • Support individualized care planning and implement activities that meet participants’ cognitive levels, interests, and psychosocial needs.
  • Plan, organize, and facilitate group and individual activities; assist with developing monthly activity calendar.
  • Encourage social interaction, friendships, and a positive community environment.
  • Maintain activity supplies, equipment, and program materials.
  • Assist with meal service, dietary needs, and participant support during meals.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in program areas.
  • Complete required documentation including progress notes, incident reports, and attendance records.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as, but not limited to, data entry, enrollment/discharge records, supply inventory, preparation of activity materials, and assistance with annual program recertification.
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with families, caregivers, and team members.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Follow attendance policies, training requirements, dress code, and organizational standards.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience working with older adults with dementia preferred.
  • Ability to lead activities, communicate effectively, and work both independently and as part of a team.

Certifications

  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Completion of Twin Lakes Community orientation and dementia-specific training required.
  • Activity Director training and/or CNA certification preferred (or willingness to complete required training).
